All Segment 1 classes are now a safe and engaging virtual learning experience!
Must be at least 14 years-old and 8 months to register. Register by providing your information in the form below. Select schedule based on class options. To view your schedule click on the calendar. Complete your registration with payment.
Anyone 18 years or older must register for the adult classes.

-Classroom Time (Live Virtual Lecture)
-6 Hours Driving Time (Behind the Wheel Instruction) and 4 hours of driving Observation Time
-At home/school pick-up and drop-off for all 6 drives.
-Course book, homework, state exam study guide
and practice material.
Segment 1 Completion Next Steps
Once you have completed the requirements for Segment 1 you cannot drive with your green Completion slip!
Go to the Secretary of State with your Segment 1 Completion slip and the appropriate documents to apply for your level one learner license.
You will need to bring 5 documents :
-Social Security number
-Original Birth Certificate
-Segment 1 Slip
-Your school ID
-Report cards
SOS 24 Appointments Booking TIPS:
Same-day appointments become available for booking 24 hours in advance. For example: If you need an appointment for 10:20 a.m. Monday, you can start looking for that appointment at 10:20 a.m. Sunday.
Advance appointments can be booked up to 180 days (6 months) ahead of time.
If you can’t find an appointment that meets your time/date needs at a specific branch, try another branch in your area.
Behind the Wheel Instruction (BTW)
During Segment 1 the State of Michigan requires that all students have a minimum of six hours of behind-the-wheel instruction. Out of the total six hours of behind-the-wheel instruction, four must be observation time in a training vehicle.
Teen 50 Program
All newbies need practice! For students who need additional practice, we recommend signing up for extra drives through our Teen 50 program. Remember to log your practice to qualify for Segment 2.
